	Once a favorite area of Cheyenne tribe, this area now has a scenic retreat set on a canyon bluff that overlooks ancient mesas. Towering cedar, buffalo grass and wild blue sage add to the beauty of this legendary setting, and to the enjoyment of numerous recreational activities.  This picture taken on cloudy day

Location: On SH-8 and SH-8A, eight miles north of Watonga, 81 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, near Lakes Watonga and Boecher.

Shop Oklahoma is not affiliated nor do we receive payment of any kind from the Oklahoma Department of  Tourism or the Tourist Industry.  We found this park in well manicured and extremely clean condition.  The park staff was friendly and very helpful.  
 

		Golf: 18 hole course adjacent to the resort  lodge, open daily 7 am through dusk. Also putting green, Pro Shop, Rental Clubs, Golf Carts, Pull Carts Scenic golf: Roman Nose's course overlooks ancient canyons. Let's Golf! The Roman Nose Golf Course was designed by Floyd Farley, and it makes use of the underlying gypsum rock and hilly terrain of Oklahoma's red rock canyon country. Countless loads of topsoil and yards of terracing have made this course newly lush in recent years. But with narrow sloping fairways and elevated greens, accuracy remains the key to success here: golf pros insist a high, soft flop shot is the secret to good scoring. Canyons border fairways and some holes, and drop offs of 30 or 40 feet are common. The course's signature seventh hole is known as the "Canyon Hole," for its natural hazard. But the sixth hole is considered the toughest thanks to a narrow, elevated green. Festivals & Shin-Digs Held the the second Friday and Saturday in October, the Watonga Cheese Festival is the biggest shin-dig of the year in Watonga. Conceived in 1976 as a combination art show and tbod contest (with cheese as the star), the festival now requires 300 volunteers working year-round to make it happen. Among the festival attractions: a Saturday parade, a flea market, Great Rat Race, Great Mouse Walk, Made-In Oklahoma tent, and extensive craft, art, and antique shows. The food contest also remains a big draw as does the tasting line. Festival hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. In mid-September, the front porch of the T.B. Ferguson mansion becomes the stage of a political re-enactment that draws tourists for miles. Billed as both humorous and nostalgic, the living history event features candidates decked out in frock coats and top hats addressing the political issues facing voters at the turn-of-the-century. Canyon Rides

Summer hours of operation for Roman Nose Riding Stables are 8:30 - 5:30 Tuesday through Sunday.  Price is $15 plus tax per person for a 1 hour ride.  In addition, children under the age of 4 may ride double with an adult for $8.50 per child for a 1 hour ride.

Dinner Rides

(Friday & Saturday)
$45+tax/person includes
BBQ Ribs, Chopped BBQ, or Catfish. 
Two day advance reservation required.

 2 hour rides

Available at 5:30 on Friday and Saturday.  Price is $25 plus tax per person for a 2 hour ride.  Children must be at least 10 years of age for this ride.

U-lead Pony Rides    $4.50+tax for 15 minutes

Equestrian Trail Fee

$5/day/horse (proof of negative coggins required)

Roman Nose Riding Stables
is under "new management" as of July, 2002.  We are located inside Roman Nose State Park.  Reservations are required for all of our activities.  We will be open through the Watonga Cheese Festival (mid-October) on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  We will be closed November through February.
We will re-open in early March.

Personal Experiences from different families visiting Roman Nose

To Shop Oklahoma: The Watts' from Medicine Lodge had a great camping experience the weekend of 5-1. You really have some quality people working for you at your park. We found the camp to be well kept and ran. The restroom facilities were kept clean, even after a rain. We would only have one suggestion for possible improvement. We really enjoy camp fires. There were very few fire rings at the camp sites. Please install more fire rings or allow campers to bring their own. Thanks for a great time!!! Mark and Connie Watts Family

MY FAMILY AND I SPENT 2 NIGHTS AND 3 DAYS AT ROMAN NOSE CAMPING IN TENTS. WE JUST WANTED TO COMMEND YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU ALL DO THERE. EVERYONE THAT WE MET OR DEALT WITH THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PARK WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND GENEROUS. WE WERE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE FACILITIES IN YOUR PARK. THERE WERE 6 ADULTS AND 3 CHILDREN IN OUR GROUP AND WE COULDN'T OF FELT MORE SECURE IF WE HAD BEEN IN OUR OWN HOMES. WE WERE IMPRESSED BY THE HIGH VISIBLITY AND THE ALERTNESS OF YOUR PARK RANGERS, ESPECIALLY MR. MORROW (I THINK THAT IS HIS NAME. TALL MAN, DARK HAIR, MUSTACHE.) THEY WERE EVER PRESENT YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO GO VERY FAR TO FIND ONE OF THE FOLKS THAT KEEP UP WITH WHO HAVE PAID, LEFT AND MOVED IN. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT. WE JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS OUR THANKS FOR A JOB VERY WELL DONE.
