HIGHLIGHTS OF HUNTING REGULATION CHANGES
The following are brief descriptions of regulation changes
for 2006-2007 seasons. Although this section is a handy reference, you still
must be familiar with all laws that apply to a particular season. For more
details, please consult the appropriate regulations in this publication.
• Turkey hunters are no longer restricted to harvesting only
one tom turkey per day during the spring season.
• A new Youth Spring Turkey Season has been established. Turkeys taken
during the youth season are not considered bonus and count toward county,
wildlife management area and regular spring turkey statewide limits.
• The required number of hours for hunter education classes has been reduced
from 10 hours to 8 hours.
• Limited red fox hunting and trapping is now allowed.
• Raccoon daily and season limits have been increased.
• The $5 rattlesnake hunting permits will now also be available on-site at
selected rattlesnake round-up festivals.
• Effective Nov. 1, 2006, consent shall be presumed to be valid for not more
than one (1) year, unless the owner, lessee, or occupant specifically grants
consent for a specified period of time.
• Antelope hunting opportunities have increased in Cimarron and Texas
counties. Anyone hunting in these areas (during antelope season) should be
aware of hunter orange and firearm requirements.

The Oklahoma Wildlife Division
manages and maintains 62 areas through direct ownership by the ODWC and through license agreements with other agencies or entities. Named Wildlife Management Areas or WMAs, these areas provide valuable public access for hunting and various other uses. These diverse areas are located throughout the state and span a variety of habitat types and species. While one area may provide excellent waterfowl hunting, another may provide a good chance at a trophy whitetail or a once in a lifetime bobwhite quail hunt. Provided is a state
map showing locations and brief area descriptions, as well as contact information for each area. Hunting opportunities and other uses permitted vary from area to area, so be sure to check regulations before planning your Oklahoma WMA outing. Area maps and information are available for purchase in the
Oklahoma Wildlife Management Area Atlas.
