The area
surrounding Eufaula Lake has a colorful
history, recalling such notorious characters
as Belle Star, the Youngers and Jesse and
Frank James, who used the area north of the
dam as their hideout.
Three
picturesque trails are located at Eufaula
Lake - the Belle Starr Nature Trail,
approximately 1 mile in length; Crowder
Point Nature Trail, a 1-1/2 mile loop
winding through a dense growth of flowering
dogwoods; and Terrapin Trail, a 3/4 mile
walk through woods overlooking the swimming
beach.
Spring and
fall offer excellent fishing, but the sport
is good throughout the year at Eufaula.
Anglers may enjoy fishing for striped bass,
largemouth bass, white bass, crappie,
catfish, walleye and a variety of sunfish.
Eufaula Public Hunting Area consists of more
than 31,800 acres. The principal game
species include bobwhite quail, deer,
rabbit, squirrel, duck, goose and dove.
Waterfowl hunting is most popular on the
Deep Fork arm.
