Boggy Depot State Park
Boggy Depot State Park This 630 acre park gets its name from Clear Boggy Creek which flows to the east and from its use as a Confederate commissary depot during the Civil War. Located along the old Texas Road between Ft. Gibson and Ft. Washita, Boggy Depot was a well established crossroads during the Civil War. It became a principal stage coach line station for a time, served as the headquarters for the Chickasaw Indians and as the temporary capital for the Choctaws. The old cemetery located in the park contains gravestones dated as early as 1810. Chief Allen Wright, who proposed Oklahoma as the name for Indian Territory is buried in this cemetery. Park features include a 6 acre fishing lake, nature/walking trail, softball diamond, baseball diamond, playground, 110 picnic tables with 3 group picnic shelters, 106 campsites and 2 comfort stations with showers.
